is food safety company that provides consumers with information about what is in their food. Our products and services provide instant access to nutritional and health data so you can track your progress, push your goals and take control of your diet and health. As we build these tools, we are committed to the principles of respecting your privacy, keeping your data safe, and letting you decide how your information is used and shared.
We will only collect data that is useful to improving Tellspec’s products and services, as well as you experience. This includes using a third party crash reporting service, to help us maintain the quality of our software.
We will be transparent about our data practices and will endeavor to explain them in clear language.
We will never sell your data, and will only share personally identifiable data when you direct us to.
We take, and always will take, the security of your data seriously.
Tellspec designs products and tools that track everyday diet and health to empower and inspire users to lead healthier lives. This privacy policy applies to all our mobile applications for iPhone OS and Android OS (each an “App” and together the “Apps”) and food sensor products (“Device” and together “Devices”), our websites located at www.tellspec.com and at www.tellspecopedia.com, (individually a “Site” and collectively “Sites”), and are collectively referred to in this privacy policy as the “Tellspec Service”.
Because we’re always looking for new and innovative ways to help you achieve your nutritional goals, this policy may change over time. If any modifications substantially change your rights under this policy we will send you an email where possible, and always provide notice on the Site.
And remember, we’re here to help. If something in this policy does not make sense or if you have any questions, please contact us at info@tellspec.com.
When activating a Tellspec Device, you will be asked to download the Tellspec App and you will either authorize Tellspec to read your HealthKit data or we will default to standard measurements for nutritional goals. We use this information to determine your personalized nutritional goals.
Tellspec does not collect your HealthKit data, store your HealthKit data, share your HealthKit data or write/alter your HealthKit data. Tellspec reads your HealthKit data to perform local calculations on your mobile device only.
HealthKit is a technology created by Apple. Tellspec’s app reads four items in your HealthKit data when you give our app the permission to do so, if that data actually exists in your HealthKit data store. These four items are: age, gender, height, weight.
The purpose of reading this data is to perform a number of calculations that personalize your home screen totals, including the Mifflin St-Jeor equation for resting metabolic rate and other calculations about your daily macronutrient intake goals. If you do not give us access to this data, it will not affect the app in a negative fashion – you will just see your totals are based on a standard 2000-Calorie diet.
Once your HealthKit data is read and the calculations are complete, we do not transmit, share, or store your data anywhere else on your device or externally.
If you wish to access data collected by your Device from the Tellspec App, you must first create a Tellspec account. When you create a Tellspec account, we ask for some personal information, including your email address and country of residence.
Location features such as mapping are only available if you activate them. When active, Tellspec may use the functionality provided by your mobile device to determine your specific location. We may store this information along with your other account information in order to provide you with location features. If you are using a mapping feature, we will send your location information to our mapping service provider so they can display your location on a map. They are contractually prevented from sharing or using this data for any other purpose. You can deactivate these features at any time and Tellspec will stop collecting this type of information.
When you scan food for the first time, we ask you for permission to use your location, and then we will tag that metadata onto your scan for the purpose of working out what foods are popular in which locations.
